Join the West Nova Scotia Regiment

Canada's Army Reserve in Nova Scotia is looking for Canadians to join its ranks.

No prior experience is necessary; we will train you. The BMQ (Basic Military Qualification) Course will introduce you to life as a soldier. You will be taught how to use the C7A2 Canadian Service Rifle. You will learn skills such as Navigation, CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defence), and Basic Fieldcraft. You will also learn transferable skills such as Teamwork, Self-discipline, and First Aid.

In order to enroll in the Canadian Forces, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen
  • 16 years of age with parents' permission and enrolled in school
  • Have 6 high school credits. If you will have 6 high school credits at the end of the current school year, ask your guidance counselor to write a letter of understanding
  • Be free of any legal obligations

You will be required to complete an Employment Application Form (DND 2170). You are also required to provide the following supporting documentation:

  • Original transcripts for your level of education (high school, college, and/or university)
  • Birth certificate
  • Proof of marital status (if applicable)

Upon receipt of the above documents and your Application, you will start a screening process. The process involves Aptitude Testing, Medical Examination, and Fitness Evaluation; as well as a series of interviews and a Reliability Check.

1. The first thing to do is visit the WNSR unit located in Aldershot, N.S. The unit trains on Thursday evenings, and this would be a good time for you to see what the troops do for regular training. You will be provided with the various forms to be filled out and the list of required supporting documents. For the location of Camp Aldershot contact the Recruiting Desk at:
